FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 2020

In March 2020, Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank was successful in their grant application to 100+ Women Northumberland. We were awarded $5600 to help the organization purchase healthy perishable and non-perishable foods.

For over three decades the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank has been helping to feed neighbours in need. With locations in Port Hope and Cobourg, the organization is committed to making sure no one goes without food in our county.

The organization is completely volunteer driven. Managers, Drivers, Board of Directors, and everyone in between, are all compassionate and caring individuals who graciously give of their time. Their dedication has allowed the organization to expand services from the original food cupboard methodology to a full-service shopping model.

Both locations purchase perishable items weekly. Items such as dairy, eggs, fresh fruits, protein items and vegetables. The ability to purchase these items is dependant upon financial donations and donations from the community.

In addition to food, the organization recognizes the need to offer personal hygiene and cleaning products such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, laundry detergent…just to name a few.

Due to the unexpected COVID-19 Pandemic, many major food bank fundraising events had to be cancelled or postponed. The timing of the generous grant from 100+ Women Northumberland could not have come at a better time! Every penny of the donation has already been allocated to healthy purchases for our neighbours.

On behalf of the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank, we would like to say a huge Thank You to all the women who dedicate their time and finances to support local causes. Your kindness has definitely made a positive impact in our community!
