Horizons of Friendship receives April 2021 grant for $6,125

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – JUNE 7, 2021
Cobourg, Ontario – Horizons of Friendship (Horizons) is thrilled to announce we
have received a $6,125 grant from 100+ Women Northumberland to support its
“Migrant Workers Outreach Program in Northumberland County.”
Horizons is a charitable Canadian organization based in Cobourg, Ontario
committed to addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice through the
cooperation of people from the North and South. Horizons’ vision is a future in
which place, gender, ethnicity, and language are no longer barriers to good health,
dignified livelihoods, strong communities, hope and happiness.
The Horizons’ Migrant Worker Outreach Program seeks to bridge the gap between
migrant workers and community services. Horizons partners with a variety of
community organizations to provide migrant workers with health, legal, and social
services. Migrant workers are at the heart of our food supply, working tirelessly to
put food on our tables. Horizons remains committed to supporting local farmers
and migrant workers as they collectively work to build and grow our food supply.
“Many of the workers that arrive to our community have very little savings, and at
times, they lack essential items to get them through quarantine. Imagine arriving
to Canada, limited English, to face all the new rules and keep yourself safe. It can
be very scary,” says Patricia Rebolledo, Executive Director. “What we hope to offer
is not just a lifeline to migrant workers, but a community of support. They are
essential workers who are part of the Canadian agricultural fabric.”
With this generous grant from 100+ Women Northumberland, Horizons will
continue to provide migrant workers with lifeline care packages, support
translation for health and legal services, and continue to work with community
stakeholders to ensure the health of all during the COVID-19 pandemic and
beyond.
Horizons extends a heartfelt thank you to Christine Roth for nominating Horizons
and to all the members of 100+ Women Northumberland for their generosity. On
behalf of migrant workers, their families, and the Horizons of Friendship team, we
thank you for helping us build a welcoming community.
