In September earlier this year, Transition House was nominated by the 100+ Women with Heart group to receive their collective grant of over $5000.  Transition House is Northumberland County’s only emergency shelter for community members who are experiencing homelessness.

“These funds have come at a very important time of the year” says Chair of the Board of Directors, Marsha Jones. “As the weather turns colder, we see an increase in the demands for service.” Transition House will use the collective grant from 100+ Women with Heart to help prepare for meeting the needs of the most vulnerable individuals in our community over the colder months. This includes winterized items such as warmer bedding for all of the 22 beds in the shelter.

Over the past year, Transition House has been steadily at full occupancy, providing emergency shelter to over 200 unique clients. Since re-opening in October, 2018, there has been a lot to celebrate. In the last year of operation, the dedicated staff at Transition House has supported over 30 residents in moving onto permanent housing after staying in shelter.

Transition House would like to recognize the compassionate and generous support from the 100+ Women with Heart group. This grant will help the organization continue to provide care and connection to our neighbors in need over the winter months.
